Rebuilding a model portfolio from scratch takes more than a good photographer — it takes the right spaces. When Pavni decided to overhaul her book, she didn't want a single backdrop and a rented strobe. She wanted range. That's what brought her to SparQ Spaces for a six-hour, five-look shoot across multiple themed sets.
The Plan: A Self-Directed Portfolio Rebuild
Pavni came to us having already done the work most models skip: she had a clear vision of what her new portfolio needed to say. Her previous book was consistent — perhaps too consistent. Every image had the same clinical white background, the same lighting style, the same emotional register. She was great at looking composed. What she needed was proof she could do more.
She booked a 6-hour session, arriving with her own MUA, a freelance photographer she'd worked with before, and a rack of five complete outfits mapped to specific looks she'd planned in advance. The SparQ team set up her first room before she arrived, and had the rotation schedule in hand so transitions were as quick as possible.
Five Looks, Five Stories
Here's how the day broke down by look:
- Look 1 — Clean Commercial Infinite Canvas white cyclorama. A tailored blazer, minimal makeup, natural expression. The kind of image a brand casting director reaches for first. Shot in the first 45 minutes while everyone's energy was highest.
- Look 2 — Editorial Strength Still in the cyclorama, but a deliberate shift in mood. A structural fashion piece with bold shoulders. Pavni's photographer worked the angles for something that reads magazine-ready — high fashion, not commercial.
- Look 3 — Retro Reverie The Thematics room's Retro Reverie backdrop brought a warmer, more nostalgic visual language. A vintage-influenced outfit, practised poses. The set did much of the work — the depth and texture are impossible to fake in post.
- Look 4 — Synthwave The neon-lit Synthwave set in Thematics gave Pavni a completely different energy to work with. This was the look she was most uncertain about before the shoot — and the one she was most pleased with at the end of the day.
- Look 5 — Beauty Close-Up Back to Chroma Canvas for a tightly lit beauty series. MUA adjusted the look for close-up work. No backdrop drama — just light, skin, and expression. The kind of images that round out a portfolio and demonstrate technical range.
What Made the Day Work
The most practical detail Pavni mentioned after the shoot was the dressing room. Having a dedicated, private changing space — with good lighting for MUA touch-ups and enough room to hang all five outfits — meant that the transitions between looks took five to eight minutes rather than twenty. On a six-hour clock, that difference is significant: it's the difference between five polished looks and three rushed ones.
The second thing was the lack of a reset between studios. SparQ's Thematics and Chroma Canvas rooms are within the same building. Walking between them with equipment took less time than loading into an elevator at most Bangkok venues. Pavni's photographer, who typically works in separate hired locations for different aesthetic moods, noted that the production rhythm of the day was unlike anything he'd experienced at other Bangkok studios.
"The Synthwave set gave me something I couldn't have asked for — a whole visual world I had to inhabit rather than perform. That look ended up being the lead image of my new book."

Planning Your Own Portfolio Day
If you're a model planning a portfolio rebuild, here's what we'd suggest based on shoots like Pavni's. Start with your commercial look — when the shoot is fresh and expressions are natural, that's when clean, approachable images work best. Move into editorial and themed sets in the middle of your session when you've warmed up and your MUA has had time to refine the look. Save beauty close-ups for the end, when the team is in full creative flow and small adjustments feel intuitive rather than pressured.
Book your MUA for the full day, not just the first look. The difference in consistency across five looks when one artist touches everything is immediately visible in the final images. And plan your outfit order around proximity of sets — it saves time and protects your energy for the camera.
Six hours is enough for five strong looks if the logistics are tight. At SparQ Spaces, we'll make sure the rooms are ready before you arrive.
